Every great sound starts with a story — and ours begins long before the first pair of Jrumz headphones ever hit the shelves. New Orleans audiologist, Dr. Lana Joseph founded Jrumz Ear Wear after her experience working with world-renowned artist Drake, where she was inspired by how music connects people across every background. As an audiologist and New Orleans native, she saw an opportunity to merge her passion for sound with her purpose — to create a headphone company that not only delivered exceptional quality but also gave back to the community that shaped her.

But the roots of Jrumz go even deeper.

Before there was Jrumz, there was High Level Speech & Hearing Center, founded by Dr. Joseph in 2016. Her journey was personal — she had suffered with speech and hearing problems for eight years before receiving the help she needed. That experience ignited a lifelong mission: to make sure no child from an underserved community ever had to wait that long for care.

High Level was built out of compassion and determination — a place where families could access affordable, quality speech and hearing services in a welcoming, high-level way.

Nearly a decade later, that mission has touched lives across Louisiana. By 2020, over 10,000 people had received help through High Level’s 3 clinics and community programs.

When Disaster Sparked Innovation

In 2021, Hurricane Ida changed everything. Each of High Level's clinic locations were damaged, by wind and water forcing the team to close. But even when the doors reopened, a new challenge emerged: families couldn’t always make it to the clinic.

Only 20–50% of scheduled visits were being attended. Parents explained that it was nearly impossible to bring their children to appointments while managing demanding work schedules within the standard 8 AM to 5 PM hours.

So, Dr. Joseph made a bold move — if families couldn’t come to the clinic, the clinic would go to them.

How Our Mobile Screening Services Began

In 2022, High Level launched Mobile Screenings, a program that travels directly to schools and daycare centers across Louisiana to provide hearing, speech, and vision screenings.

The mission was simple but powerful: to ensure every child — regardless of family income, background, or transportation — has access to early detection and intervention services that could change the course of their lives.

By meeting families where they are, High Level removes barriers and makes care accessible, convenient, and equitable.
